Copywriter and communications expert based in Marlborough.

Writing

A writer by heart, my journalism career has seen me run alongside armed police in a bid to report breaking news, interview Kiwi musical duo the Broods and Pic’s Peanut Butter king Pic Picot, and try my hand at investigative journalism as a staff reporter at Stuff.co.nz.

As a freelance copywriter and comms expert, I’ve worked for many different local and international companies, such as Atlassian, Workato, GoSkills, Fast Company, Tasman District Council, Marlborough District Council, Wine Marlborough, Kotahitanga mō te Taiao as part of The Nature Conservancy, The Health Promotion Agency and innovative fintech company Hnry.

Journalism Background

As a staff reporter at Stuff.co.nz (Nelson Mail), I covered breaking news, environmental issues, entertainment, and arts, producing content across print, online, and video. I also trained colleagues on video production and established protocols for breaking news coverage, while coordinating and reporting for the weekly community paper, the Nelson Leader.

My journalism foundation was built in London, where I worked as Production Editor at Upstart Magazine, managing a team of 25 to deliver a student publication on deadline, and as Assistant Researcher at The Week, honing my research, fact-checking, and editorial skills.

Freelance Copywriting & Content Strategy

Since 2019, I've worked as a freelance writer and communications expert for diverse local and international clients across government, non-profit, and private sectors. My expertise includes web copy, customer stories, case studies, profiles, and long-form research-based SEO articles (800-3000 words), as well as media releases, annual plans, discussion documents, and guides.

What defines my work is the ability to translate complex information into clear, concise communication that resonates with diverse audiences—whether it's technical documentation for software companies or public-facing content for government agencies.

Communications

I'm a communications professional with extensive experience spanning government, non-profit, and private sectors. My expertise lies in translating complex information into clear, accessible content while driving strategic digital initiatives.

Strategic Leadership & Digital Content

I've led major digital transformation projects, including serving as Digital Content Project Lead at the Ministry for Primary Industries, where I developed strategy frameworks and managed content refresh projects across New Zealand Food Safety. At Tasman District Council, I oversaw all digital properties—websites, subsites, and intranet—while implementing social media strategies and managing capital projects with cross-functional teams.

Crisis Communications & Public Information

I have proven crisis communications experience as Public Information Manager for Civil Defence during the 2019 Pigeon Valley fire recovery, managing all communications to the public, stakeholders, councillors, and media during a critical emergency recovery response.

UX Research & Content Development

Currently at HazardCo, I lead all UX research initiatives from conception to delivery, conducting qualitative research and translating findings into actionable product improvements. I also ensure customer-facing health and safety content is accessible and on-brand, working across product, advisory, and commercial teams to design innovative solutions.

Content Strategy & Marketing

My experience includes developing comprehensive content strategies for organisations like SafeStack, where I managed all content and social media end-to-end, and The Nature Conservancy, where I led communications for the Kotahitanga mō te Taiao Alliance. I've also worked as a Content Strategist for tech companies, including Xero and Kordia.

Throughout my career, I've demonstrated strong stakeholder management skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to make complex information understandable for diverse audiences.
